Resume Tips

  • Your resume should clearly tell the recruiter what you seek to do at the company. A recruiter will discard your resume if your work history, dates of employment and reason for applying are not clear.
  • A resume gets you the interview, not the job. Save the detailed descriptions for the interview.
  • Include specifics about your past experience, including achievements and tangible actions.
  • Show what you have achieved in your position(s). Don’t regurgitate your job description!
  • To the extent possible, show a logical pattern of growth in your career.

Interview Tips

  • Below are four commonly asked interview questions.  Be prepared to answer them!
  1. Tell me about yourself.
  2. What is your weakness?
  3. What are your strengths?
  4. Why should we hire you?
  • Keep periodic eye contact with the interviewer. Use the interview’s name during the interview. Laugh or smile once in a while – remember, interviewers are people, too!
  • Listen carefully to the questions asked. Answer questions as directly as possible. Use examples of how your skills and abilities would fit the job.
  • Dress in a neat and tidy manner.  If you are unsure about the attire expectations, go with the more conservative option.  It’s better to be more ‘dressed up’ than ‘dressed down.’
  • Be prepared to provide updated references if asked.  You should contact your references before the interview, just in case.
